The best preserves in the world come from Wales!
Caerphilly Preserves works hard to bring you quality products, locally produced, in the "Land of Song." We're proud of our preserves. They are all hand-made in small, open-pot batches. Whether it be a sumptuous Caramelised Red Onion Chutney, a zingy Spiced Orange Marmalade, a tangy Lemon Lime Curd, or one of our classic conserves such as Raspberry, Strawberry, Blueberry or Rhubarb and Vanilla, we are confident you won't forget our flavours and will want to come back for more.
We've moved on a bit since then. From talking to thousands of people, and fine-tuning the product in the light of their comments, we've developed a range of high-quality, innovative products that you will struggle to find from other suppliers. We still sell at food festivals, meeting the public face to face and getting their feedback on new flavours, but now we wholesale to a network of stockists throughout Wales from our office in Ystrad Mynach, and are expanding our activities into England. We've also received expressions of interest from the USA, Pakistan and Kuwait. We have bold plans to expand our range further into more adventurous flavours. In five years, we expect to be supplying wholesale throughout the United Kingdom, and exporting to the world.
I'm Andrew, and theoretically, I'm a techno wizz. I graduated with my Master's in computer science in 2008, just as the global economy tanked, techies were being laid off across the world, and I couldn't get a job for love nor money. Two years' very depressing unemployment followed, and, reaching the wrong side of forty, I understood that, if I wanted a decent job again, I was going to have to create it myself.
One night, I dreamed of my grandmother's marmalade, dark, thick and delicious, and awoke with a whim to make marmalade. I bought some oranges and sugar, and set to, and then decided to raid the spice cabinet while I was at it. Cinnamon goes well with oranges, so in some went, a few cloves, a bit of ginger ... and the result was sensational. Everybody thought it was great, including my brother, who has never seen any reason not to be brutally honest with me. I started thinking how much fun it would be if I could actually persuade some people to pay for it.
So I signed up for some local markets, and knocked together a few other basic jams. I knew nothing of what I was doing. My first table was a wallpaper-pasting table that I found in the attic! I turned to the lady running the stall next to mine and, showing her a jar, asked, "What would you pay for that?" And that was how I decided what to charge!
